Description

This is my stepdad's recipe.

Ingredients for 4 servings

  • 2 sirloin steaks (2 lbs each)
  • 4 large onions, sliced
  • 3 large green peppers, sliced
  • 4.5 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Steps

  1. Cut steak into serving portions and broil to rare. In a large pot sprayed with cooking oil, put garlic, onions, green peppers and saute with a lid on the pot, stirring often (scorches easily) and cook for 10 minutes. Turn off heat and add water, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Place steak in a baking dish and cover with the vegetables. Cover dish with foil and place in a 300F oven and bake for 1 hour. Reduce oven to 250F and bake another 30 minutes to 1 hour. Remove when meat is tender.

Ingredients for 20 servings

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 (29 oz) cans Italian tomatoes, pureed
  • 3 cans tomato paste
  • 6 large cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper

Meatballs:

  • 1.5 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground Italian sausage
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • .25 cup minced parsley
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper

Steps

  1. In a large saucepan, saute garlic in olive oil. Add tomatoes and simmer 30 minutes. Add tomato paste, sugar, sugar, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Simmer on low heat for 2- 3 hours, stirring often. If sauce gets too thick, add water.
  2. Mix the beef, sausage, onion, garlic, beaten eggs, bread crumbs, parsley, and seasonings together. Roll into meatballs, using a 1/4 cup scoop to make the balls. Fry in pan. Add to sauce. Can also add browned Italian sausage links that have been cut into thirds to the sauce. Cook sausage for at least an hour of the sauce's cooking time.

Ingredients for 6 servings

  • 1 head icedberg lettuce, cleaned and torn
  • 1 cup sliced celery
  • 1 cup boiled eggs, chopped
  • 2 cups frozen peas, cooked
  • 2.5 cups mayonnaise mixed with 2 1/2 tsp sugar
  • .75 lb bacon, crumbled
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese

Steps

  1. Layer in this order: lettuce, celery, boiled eggs, peas, mayo mixture, bacon, cheese. Cover and refrigerate 8 hours before serving.

Ingredients for 12 servings

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2.5 cup flour
  • .5 tsp baking soda
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup mashed bananas (2-3 large bananas)
  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • .5 cup buttermilk
  • .5 cup chopped pecans
  • .5 tsp vanilla

Steps

  1. Combine and pour into 2 large, greased loaf pans. Bake at 350F for 60 minutes. (4 mini loaves bake for 30 minutes). While still warm pour glaze of powder sugar, vanilla, and water and pour over the top.

Ingredients for 8 servings

  • 3 lbs carrots
  • 1 can tomato soup, undiluted
  • .66 cup sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • .75 cup vinegar
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • .5 tsp pepper
  • .5 tsp celery seed
  • 1 large onion, sliced into rings
  • 1 green pepper, sliced into strips

Steps

  1. Peel and slice carrots into diagonal slices. Cook in boiling water until tender but slightly crunchy. Cool. Whip together soup, oil, mustard, pepper and celery seed in a blender. Fold together soup mixture, carrots, onions, and green peppers. Marinate in refrigerator 24 hours or overnight.

Ingredients for 24 servings

  • 1 cup milk
  • .33 cup shortening
  • .5 cup sugar
  • .5 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 tbsp yeast
  • .33 cup water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • .5 cup mashed potatoes
  • .33 cup potato water
  • 6 cups flour
  • 1 egg

Glaze:

  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • .75 cups hot water
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Steps

  1. Scald milk then add shortening, sugar, syrup and salt. When cool, add yeast dissolved in water.
  2. Add beaten eggs and potatoes and potato water. Beat in flour a little at a time. Let rise.
  3. Knead down. Let rise again and roll out to 1/2" thick and cut into doughnuts.
  4. Place on lightly floured pan and let rise again then deep fry in hot oil.
  5. Glaze while hot. (Could also roll in cinnamon sugar or orange glaze).

Ingredients for 10 servings

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb hot Italian sausage (if in link form, remove casing and cook like ground beef)
  • 1 (16 oz) box Rigatoni pasta
  • .5 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (26 oz) jar spagetti sauce
  • 2 (8 oz) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp basil
  • .5 tsp salt
  • .5 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 2.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1.5 cups cottage cheese
  • .66 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp parsley

Steps

  1. Boil pasta till al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Cook ground beef, sausage, onion and garlic in skillet till beef is done. Drain fat. Set aside.
  3. Prepare sauce by simmering together the pre-made sauce , tomato sauce, and spices. Simmer about an hour
  4. In a medium bowl, combine sour cream, cottage cheese and parsley. Add 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese and set aside.
  5. Assemble in lightly greased 13x9 casserole dish in this order: 1 cup sauce, 1/2 of the cooked pasta, 1/2 of the meat, all of the cottage cheese mixture, 2 cups of sauce, remaining pasta, remaining meat, the remaining sauce, and 2 cups of mozzarella.
  6. This should fill the entire casserole dish. Cover with foil and bake at 375F for about 40 minutes or till sides start to bubble. Remove foil and bake about 10 minutes more or till cheese is melted and brown.

Ingredients for 12 servings

  • 1 pkg sugar cookie dough
  • 1 small container Cool Whip
  • 8 oz yogurt (any berry flavor)
  • Fruit (Mandarin oranges, blueberries, strawberries, etc.)

Steps

  1. Cut half dollar sized circles out of the cookie dough and bake according to package instructions. Cool completely.
  2. Whisk Cool Whip and yogurt together and spread onto cookies. Refrigerate at least 2 hours. Top with fruit.

Description

This was my favorite cake growing up.

Ingredients for 15 servings

  • 1 box of white, yellow, or lemon cake
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 5 small limes, juiced
  • 8 oz cool whip
  • 1 can crushed pinapple

Steps

  1. Mix and bake cake according to directions on box for a 9 x 13 pan.
  2. Mix sweetened condensed milk and lime juice and let sit for 5 minutes. Then add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Frost cake and refrigerate for couple of hours before serving.

Ingredients for 20 servings

  • 8 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1 cup wheat bran
  • 1 cup flax seed
  • 1.5 cups chopped almonds or pecans
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 1 cup sunflower seeds
  • .5 cup oil
  • .5 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • .5 cup brown sugar
  • .75 cup honey or agave nectar
  • 2 tbsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup

Topping:

  • 2 cups semi sweet or milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup raisins

Steps

  1. Mix oats, bran, flax seed, almonds, coconut, and sunflower seeds and set aside.
  2. In a saucepan bring to a boil the oil, applesauce, brown sugar, honey, vanilla, cinnamon and maple syrup. Once it boils, remove from heat and pour over the oat mixture. Mix until well combined. Spread onto two large greased cookie sheets. Bake at 250F for 45 minutes, stirring halfway through baking time. Take out of the oven and let granola set on sheets for 1 hour undisturbed. Then add the chocolate chips and raisins and mix well. store in an airtight container or ziplock bags. Keeps for months.
